About Tina Barney:
Photographer Tina Barney will speak on her long career in photography. She has said, “I began photographing what I knew.” For much of the 1980s and 1990s, this meant taking pictures of her friends and family as they went about their daily lives in affluent areas of Long Island, New York City, and New England. Employing a large-format, 8-by-10-view camera enabled her to create highly detailed images that retain their focus and richness even when made into four-by-five-foot prints. Barney was thus one of the first photographers to present color work on a grand scale that rivaled most twentieth-century paintings. This scale also inspired a deliberate construction of the picture, at times requiring supplementary lighting and the direction of the sitters.
Barney's work may be found in collections worldwide. She has received a Lucie Award for Achievement in Portraiture and an artist's fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.

About Sarina Finkelstein:
Sarina Finkelstein grew up in Columbia, MO but now lives in Brooklyn, NY. She is most attracted to photographing "undiluted" personalities and the off-the-grid or alternative lifestyles of the passionate, obsessive, eccentric and determined and enjoys striking up conversations with strangers on park benches.
Her current work is an exploration of modern-day gold prospectors in California. It has been featured as the cover story for The Daily, in the London Telegraph's Sunday magazine, SEVEN, Smithsonian, Amica, on the New York Times Lens Blog, TIME.com, NPR.org, Discover Magazine’s Visual Science, Feature Shoot, Photo District News' Photo of the Day and Conscientious photo blogs.
Sarina will be exhibiting the Prospectors work at Rayko Photo Center, 428 3rd St, San Francisco.
